About Scott Hotaling

Scott Hotaling Few people have explored difficult to reach, rarely photographed locations in the southern Appalachian mountains to the extent that I have. An explorer at heart and freelance photographer by trade, I'm confident you'll find not only beautiful imagery on this site's pages but also a glimpse into the wild places that make me tick. I particularly enjoy seeking out remote mountain summits under the most difficult weather conditions to capture views that few will ever witness.

My work has been internationally published and garnered a wide variety of awards and accolades but that isn't the goal of what I do. The goal is simple: shoot scenes of the most beautiful places I can find under the best possible conditions and bring those views to the public. And, by doing so, I strive to remind people how incredible our planet is and how imperative it is we do our individual parts to preserve it for future generations.

In addition to western North Carolina and the Appalachian Range, I'm an avid traveler and mountaineer. My camera has been to nearly every corner of North America including the summit of Washington State's Mount Rainier 16 times. Images from all my years of adventure are collected here for your viewing pleasure, I hope you enjoy Light of the Wild! If you even any questions or special requests, please send me an email. I'd love to hear from you.
